Summer 2005
For
the year 2004, Appalachian Region Missions
distributed two million pounds of quality
food to over one hundred thousand persons in
Bell, Clay, Estill, Harlan, Leslie, Letcher
and Perry counties in Kentucky - all free to
the recipients. By the end of 2005, based on
current figures, we will exceed that amount
by ten percent.
A new
8' x 20' walk-in freezer will be installed
soon at our Cumberand location which will
allow better control and management of our
food distribution system. Also, Mr. Glenn
Baker has made additional storage space
available at that location. HT Cold Storage
of London, Kentucky has been a working
partner almost from the beginning. It is men
like this who make what we do possible. Our
product and service donors are an extended
family working together to provide quality
items. We value their trust.
Five
new programs were launched July '04 through
June '05: Home Repair, Prescription
Drugs/Eyeglasses, Assistance With Utilities,
and Children's Shoes. These programs are
operating in Harlan and Bell counties. A five
thousand dollar grant provided assistance
with Prescription Drugs to twenty six
participants in Calico Rock, Arkansas. We
appreciate participating charities for the
confidence they place in us and for making
these programs possible.
One
of our family of charities responded to our
request to help with expenses for a child
with very serious heart problems to make a
trip east for treatment. The treatment was
successful and the child is now back home in
Harlan County enjoying the summer!
